Game Overview

A retro-futuristic, action hack n' slash where a cowboy, needed for their cowboy ways, is turned into a capybara and transported into the future because AI robots have taken over and mixed up the timelines.

This game was created for the 2023 Epic MegaJam event. Welcome to our "antiquated future" and please enjoy! We attempted the "Use it or Lose It" challenge and created the whole game using a single texture map.

Story

In the rugged terrain of the American Wild West in the late 1800s, there lived a fearless cowboy named Jeb Carson. He was known throughout the land of Old West for his sharp shooting skills, and his unwavering sense of justice. Jeb was the kind of man who could stare down danger without flinching, and his reputation as a quick-draw gunfighter was legendary. 

One fateful evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Jeb found himself in the midst of a mysterious storm. Lightning crackled across the darkening sky, and thunder roared like a thousand stampeding cattle. In the midst of the chaos, a blinding bolt of electricity struck him, engulfing him in a brilliant flash. 

When Jeb's senses returned, he realized something was terribly wrong. He no longer stood tall in his cowboy boots, and his head became too big for his cowboy hat. The world around him had transformed into a surreal, metallic landscape with advanced technology. This transformation stripped him of cowboy pride, replaced by a bizarre sensation of being small and agile. To his utter disbelief, Jeb had been thrust into the future, but as a capybara. 

Towering skyscrapers of steel and glass stretched into the sky, and strange, mechanical beings roamed the streets. These were the robots that now ruled this world, and they were unlike anything Jeb had ever seen. 

As a capybara, Jeb's instincts for survival kicked in. His cowboy courage remained intact, but his capybara form limited his ability to fight back. To return to his own time and place, Jeb must fight his way through the robots.
